Mormon Studies Books in 2026

•

Building on the collection of links about Latter-day Saint books for last year (Mormon Studies Books in 2025), here is the collection of books I’ve been able to find out about for 2026. I will continue to update this page throughout the year, as reviews, interviews, and podcasts become available for the books and other books come to my attention.

  1. Thanks, Chad. Looks like a great year.

  2. Jenny Champoux

Look for _Picturing Christ: Understandings Depictions of Jesus in History and Art_ from Deseret Book on March 2! Coauthored by Daniel Becerra, Jennifer Champoux, Mark Ellison, and Matthew Grey.

  3. Jenny Champoux, good to know on that one!

    Gary Bergera, my pleasure.

  4. I enjoy this annual post. Pre orders placed. The new Oxford Bible and the book on Law look the most interesting for me.

I’m glad you enjoy it, RL. The Deseret Alphabet and C. C. A. Christensen are probably the ones I’m most excited about (other than my own book, of course).

  6. Any idea on when the William Clayton Journals will be released?

  7. Seth, not really. The Clayton manuscript has been complete for a while. With the pivot to publishing through Yale (something that feels weird, given that they’ve published so many other books as a press), it’s whenever the university press finishes their reviews, editing, and preparations. My guess would be a release towards the end of the year.

Chad, I have a new book coming out in December–an introduction to the Book of Mormon that will be part of Oxford University Press’s series “Guides to Sacred Texts.” It will follow the basic format of their previous guides to scriptures such as the Rigveda, Classical Upanishads, the Analects, the Daode Jing, Buddhist Tantras, the New Testament, the Apocrypha, and so forth. My contribution to the series will cover many of the topics from the general essays in my Annotated Book of Mormon, but in a little more depth, and I tackle some new topics as well. In my opinion, the Book of Mormon deserves a place in the library of world scriptures, and I’m delighted that OUP commissioned this volume.

  9. That’s so exciting, Grant! I’ll add it to the list.

  10. Chad, this is fabulous work. Thank you very much for doing it.

    One question:
When you look for reviews of books, are you only looking at the sites you reference here? Or are you doing general searches for reviews of the books?

I ask because I wonder how much I can rely on my assumption that the sites you list are the main sites where LDS books get reviewed (i.e., is it possible that there are other sites out there that review LDS books that you have excluded for some reason, or that you haven’t noticed because of the way you search)?

I’m mostly keeping an eye on group of sites I know do a lot of reviews or interviews (T&S, Dawning if a Brighter Day, From the Desk, Cultural Hall). If I’m made aware of more of them through publishers’ newsletters, social media posts, the https://www.ldsblogs.org/ site, and the occasionally search, I’ll add them. But I wouldn’t trust this to be a comprehensive collection.
