It\u2019s hard to read the scriptures and miss it\u2014particularly the Book of Mormon or the Bible. I can\u2019t help but feel like it was <em>the <\/em><span>issue of the day. The thing that, for one reason or another, many members of the ancient Church just couldn\u2019t get their heads around. I can almost see Paul sitting up late at night, rubbing his temples, trying to think of another way to teach that the Law of Moses had been fulfilled, that salvation was\u2014always was\u2014in Christ, that if they couldn\u2019t understand that critical doctrine they didn\u2019t get any of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I wondered why the ancient Saints had such a hard time understanding it.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Recently, I was vacuuming our chapel. The night before, I\u2019d been at Cub Scouts, and that afternoon, I had to be at a ward activity. I was in charge of sharing time the next day, and there was ward council, and, and, and.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I don\u2019t mind going to these things. I don\u2019t even mind that sometimes, building the kingdom means coming up with an act for the ward talent show. I\u2019m not saying there are too many meetings and too many requirements. It\u2019s just that it doesn\u2019t amount to much if we don\u2019t personally consecrate them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Alone in the chapel, it hit me that I\u2019d been hopping from one Church-related activity to the next without ever acknowledging that I do these things because I love God. And so I had removed a significant portion of their meaning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">You might even say I was worshipping a dead law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><em>\u201cAnd behold, this is the whole meaning of the law. Every whit pointing to that great and last sacrifice; and that great and last sacrifice will be the Son of God, yea,infinite and eternal\u201d (Alma 34:14).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of years ago I got really interested in the Law of Moses.
