{"id":8254,"date":"2009-05-15T00:13:09","date_gmt":"2009-05-15T05:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/?p=8254"},"modified":"2018-10-02T21:48:05","modified_gmt":"2018-10-03T02:48:05","slug":"uber-deep-and-important-doctrinal-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/index.php\/2009\/05\/uber-deep-and-important-doctrinal-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber-Deep and Important Doctrinal Questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After reading the post from a couple days ago about optimal tithing rates, I started to think about some of the unanswered questions that have come to mind while I&#8217;ve been <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">playing Brick Breaker in Elder&#8217;s Quorum<\/span> pondering the mysteries of the Gospel.\u00a0 It seems like this audience might be able to offer some differing perspectives on these conundrums that, up to now, have kept me at a loss.\u00a0 A lot of you seem to be much smarter than I am.<\/p>\n<p>Have at them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--more-->If Steve Martin really was a member of the Church, would I still have had mission companions who claimed to be in his ward?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Has anyone ever suggested to the First Presidency an addendum to the \u201cNo R-Rated Movies\u201d rule? I think I\u2019d suggest the following: No R-rated movies unless: 1) the violence is \u201chistoric\u201d; 2) you can reasonably rationalize that the movie\u2019s not as bad as <em>Titanic; <\/em>or 3) if it\u2019s <em>The Matrix<\/em>. I know a ton of people who already think that\u2019s the rule \u2013 seems like it would be a pretty easy transition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ve been told that you shouldn\u2019t pray for your team to win while you\u2019re watching sports because, in doing so, you\u2019re implicitly asking God to make the opposing team lose. Do you think that rule counts when you\u2019re team&#8217;s playing against Kobe, seeing as he&#8217;s pure evil?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Why does every singles\u2019 ward have a guy who\u2019ll bear his testimony about the parallels between the Gospel and <em>Star Wars<\/em>? Is it a calling?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Would it take a revelation to allow people who aren\u2019t native Hawaiian to get the congregation to answer back when they say \u201cAloha\u201d from the pulpit? Follow up question: Will the continuation of this apparently racist policy affect Mitt Romney\u2019s presidential hopes?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">If Dan Brown\u2019s next book isn\u2019t really about Mormons (as many girls I went out with claimed it will be), will people finally be able to admit publicly that the <em>The Da Vinci Code <\/em>isn\u2019t consistent with the teachings of the Church (as many girls I went out with claimed it was)?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">When did Bono meet his Mormon wife (come on, \u201cLove is temple\/Love the higher law\u201d\u2026It\u2019s so obvious!)? Was it when he was in Utah that one night when U2 was booed off stage?
