{"id":804,"date":"2004-05-16T21:42:54","date_gmt":"2004-05-17T03:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=804"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T06:00:00","slug":"a-sunday-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/index.php\/2004\/05\/a-sunday-poem\/","title":{"rendered":"A Sunday Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s your RDA of George Herbert:<\/p>\n<p>IESU<\/p>\n<p>Iesu is in my heart, his sacred name<br \/>\nIs deeply carved there: but th&#8217;other week<br \/>\nA great affliction broke the little frame,<br \/>\nEv&#8217;n all to pieces: which I went to seek:<br \/>\nAnd first I found the corner, where was &#8216;I&#8217;,<br \/>\nAfter, where &#8216;ES,&#8217; and next where &#8216;U&#8217; was graved.<br \/>\nWhen I had got these parcels, instantly<br \/>\nI sat me down to spell them, and perceived<br \/>\nThat to my broken heart he was &#8216;I ease you,&#8217;<br \/>\n                                     And to my whole is IESU.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThis is one of the kind of poems that makes me love Herbert just a little more than Donne&#8211;a little less polished, the conceits a little awkward, the sentimentality just a touch too treacly sometimes.
