I was only a teenager when the new-fangled consolidated schedule hit the church fashion scene. Certainly there are particulars that escape me, but this is the way I remember it:<\/p>\n

  1. Sunday morning:<\/strong> Sunday School<\/li>\n
  2. Sunday afternoon:<\/strong> Sacrament Meeting<\/li>\n
  3. Wednesday evening<\/strong>: Mutual (or MIA or YW or YWMIA or whatever the name du jour happened to be)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It is my recollection that the “consolidated schedule” would reduce drive time and allow more family time.<\/p>\n

    But now, my schedule looks like this some weeks:<\/p>\n

    1. Sunday afternoon:<\/strong> Sacrament Meeting
      \nSunday School
      \nRelief Society<\/li>\n
    2. Tuesday evening:<\/strong> Mutual<\/li>\n
    3. Wednesday afternoon<\/strong>: Activity Day<\/li>\n
    4. Wednesday evening<\/strong>: Enrichment<\/li>\n
    5. Thursday afternoon<\/strong>: Scouts<\/li>\n
    6. Saturday evening<\/strong>: Youth dance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Obviously some of these vary. This past week we had Standards Night on Sunday evening and a Laurel senior breakfast on Saturday morning in lieu of the night dance. Some weeks we have pack meeting on early Tuesday evening instead of den meeting on Thursday. Next week there is a Primary activity in addition to the usual.<\/p>\n

      Ultimately, however, it seems that the “consolidated schedule” turned out to be an expansion schedule. Did we get off track, do we need more meetings now than when I was a kid, or was expansion the plan all along?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
