{"id":637,"date":"2004-04-06T15:47:19","date_gmt":"2004-04-06T19:47:19","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=637"},"modified":"2009-01-16T17:32:45","modified_gmt":"2009-01-16T21:32:45","slug":"best-conference-blogging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/index.php\/2004\/04\/best-conference-blogging\/","title":{"rendered":"Best Conference Blogging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With all due respect to <a href=\"http:\/\/rameumptom.blogspot.com\/2004_03_28_rameumptom_archive.html#108101438313151671\">others<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/archives\/000624.html\">who tried<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/archives\/000623.html\">their hands<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/archives\/000625.html\">Conference<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/archives\/000626.html\">blogging<\/a>, I think that the best commentary award goes to a string of posts over at <a href=\"http:\/\/mormoninquiry.typepad.com\">Dave&#8217;s Mormon Inquiry Blog<\/a> (See posts <a href=\"http:\/\/mormoninquiry.typepad.com\/mormon_inquiry\/2004\/04\/conference_note.html#more\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mormoninquiry.typepad.com\/mormon_inquiry\/2004\/04\/conference_note_1.html\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/mormoninquiry.typepad.com\/mormon_inquiry\/2004\/04\/conference_note_2.html\">here<\/a>).<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nHere are some samples of his comments:<\/p>\n<ul>President Monson&#8217;s self-deprecating stories about his experience playing basketball struck a pleasant note. I don&#8217;t normally resonate with the storytellers, but this time I appreciated the humility and confidence of a man who could tell a story of his athletic shortcomings to a crowd of 10,000 guys.<\/ul>\n<p>There was some interesting critical commentary, such as:<\/p>\n<ul> I&#8217;m sorry, I do not worship the God of Earthquakes. That kind of stuff played well for illiterate peasants of the ancient world, but not for modern Christians. I think Elijah kind of made that point 2500 years ago: God is not in the storm but in the still small voice.<\/ul>\n<p>As well as some funny vignettes of conference watching:<\/p>\n<ul>Dennis E. Simmons gave the &#8220;But If Not&#8221; talk. By halfway through it I had the kids chiming in with the punch line, &#8220;but if not . . .&#8221; And what a voice! This guy should be on television (well, I guess he was).
