Scholars have pointed out that there are <a href=\"http:\/\/w3.byuh.edu\/academics\/ace\/Speeches\/Mckay\/M_Stanton.htm\">some similarities between Israeli communal groups and early LDS consecration<\/a>.  The decline of the kibbutz may be similar to the decline of consecration.
