His sacrifice is pivotal in the life of those who will accept its life-changing help. Less-often discussed is our own role in the atonement \u2014 that is, without accepting it, and implementing it in our lives, Christ\u2019s sacrifice is of little help. While the power of the atonement is overwhelming, we still must open the door, we must accept it in our lives. We must we willing to change for the atonement to help us.<\/p>\n<p>While LDS poetry about the atonement tends to focus on Christ\u2019s role, we do have a tradition of calling for everyone to \u201cfollow Him\u201d, to come unto the Lord so that His atonement is effective in our lives. In a very real sense, this poetry is \u201cdeclaring what He hath done\u201d for our souls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Redemption comes only through Jesus Christ.<\/h2>\n<p>A good example of this poetry that asks us to \u201ccome unto Him\u201d is Theodore Curtis\u2019 poem below, which puts Christ\u2019s atonement in the context of His life. Of course, a testimony of Christ can be a statement of belief in Christ and in his role. But a testimony is also a narrative about what happened \u2014 in the case of Christ the narrative of how His sacrifice has helped us to change. We see His influence in circumstances or improbable events that help us. And, we see His arm in things that others are inspired to do. The Lord often helps us through friends, and this is even one of the ways that we are influenced to accept His atonement in our lives.<\/p>\n<p>This poem sees our friends as a kind of gift from God, \u201csomething of His divinity.\u201d I like the way this shows me another way to think about friendships and God\u2019s influence in my life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"mw-heading mw-heading3\">\n<h3 id=\"Mother-Friend_2\">Mother-Friend<\/h3>\n<p>by Edna J.
