The \u201cextended thinking\u201d function is the fruit of a realization in the AI labs that if you give the AI longer to think their responses are more thorough and accurate, so in addition to expanding the compute size you can expand the compute time parameter. Claude is best known for coding and application development, so since the announcement the AI Twitterverse has been exploding with people creating all sorts of (relatively) sophisticated games and simulations using a few lines of prompts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This has the potential to be a gamechanger in the education space. Previously I used an earlier version of this to create a data visualization of New Testament books by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/index.php\/2024\/09\/data-visualization-of-new-testament-books-by-size-time-since-christ-and-authenticity\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">time since Christ and authenticity score<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but I had to handload in the information and it took a couple iterations. The newer version generates much more sophisticated material. For example, with a few lines of prompt I created <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/claude.site\/artifacts\/27de3603-a9e7-4c9a-9f19-cdd621f14f2e\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an app that simulates the planetary motions in the solar system<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the ability to adjust the gravity of the different planets. It\u2019s not perfect (you have to unclick \u201cReal Distances\u201d to see anything), but for a couple lines of prompting it\u2019s quite good.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of Church-related content, with our scripture and history we have a number of cases where a really good data visualization is worth ten thousand words. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s why I\u2019ve appreciated people who take the time to put together pedagogical materials. For some D&amp;C examples, this is a great visualization by Ryan Hinck (source <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sitatcit.home.blog\/2024\/05\/08\/dandcdiagram\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) for some perspective on which D&amp;C editions had which sections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-49189 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dandctimes2-800x449.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"345\" srcset=\"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dandctimes2-800x449.png 800w, https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dandctimes2-1536x862.png 1536w, https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dandctimes2.png 1601w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nathanrichardson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/NathanRichardson.com-DC-Geographical-Timeline-2025.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nathan Richardson has put together<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> another useful visualization showing the early Church history timeline alongside D&amp;C sections (can\u2019t fit it on one page), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nathanrichardson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/DC-overview-handouts-RUBRICS.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as another plot <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">showing the density of D&amp;C revelations by year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-49194\" src=\"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/X3-800x435.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/X3-800x435.png 800w, https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/X3-1536x835.png 1536w, https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/X3-2048x1113.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of typesetting and digital publishing, my friend Ben Crowder has produced a number of different editions of Latter-day Saint scriptures that help one read them through fresh eyes, like a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bencrowder.net\/doctrine-and-covenants-readers-edition\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">D&amp;C scripture study edition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the sections in chronological order, and a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bencrowder.net\/book-of-mormon-plates-edition\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plates edition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Book of Mormon. Finally, the award-winning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mapping-Mormonism-Brandon-S-Plewe\/dp\/0842528253\">&#8220;Mapping Mormonism&#8221;<\/a> project produced dozens of high-quality data visualizations and maps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So for my small contribution to the gospel data visualization and pedagogy space, I used Claude to produce a number of different fun interactive \u201capps.\u201d I did not feed any information into it, all of the necessary information was grabbed natively from the training data. You can click on the link to access it and play around with it, but I\u2019ll also be posting screenshots.
