{"id":4608,"date":"2008-06-15T21:58:45","date_gmt":"2008-06-16T01:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/?p=4608"},"modified":"2008-06-16T00:09:23","modified_gmt":"2008-06-16T04:09:23","slug":"the-leader-of-the-band","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/index.php\/2008\/06\/the-leader-of-the-band\/","title":{"rendered":"The Leader of the Band"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A song that is synonymous for me with Father&#8217;s day is Dan Fogelberg&#8217;s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=l8mml7n4FmA\">Leader of the Band<\/a><\/em>.  <!--more-->Fogelberg was a king of the sappy 1970 and 1980-era love ballads, with \u00c3\u00bcber cheesy-hits like <em>Longer<\/em>, but <em>Leader of the Band<\/em> was different (at least for me).  It was a tribute that came off as a little more sincere and a little less fluffy than Fogelberg&#8217;s standard fare. Growing up my dad used to listen to it often, remembering his own father who died in the mid-eighties.  When Fogelberg passed away last December, my father and I exchanged emails reminiscing about both the song and my grandpa. While it&#8217;s not an overtly religious song, it still strikes a spiritual chord in me (I guess you could add it to <a href=\"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/?p=4450\">my list<\/a>).
