D. Michael Quinn, for example, who is a fabulously tenacious researcher at times seems to have little in the way of a historiographic agenda other than to do &#8220;honest&#8221; history rather than &#8220;official&#8221; history.  This is very laudable, of course, but it is an intellectual agenda that depends decisively on being able to identify &#8220;official&#8221; history and its scholarly lapses.
