(Hat tip:  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bycommonconsent.com\/2006\/11\/exasperation-with-the-media\/\">Voldemort<\/a>).  Like many such, he has things to say about Kolob &#8212; a lot more, really, than I&#8217;ve ever heard at church.  Is Kolob even really part of LDS doctrine any more?<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>If it is, it plays a spectacularly minor role.  A <a href=\"http:\/\/library.lds.org\/nxt\/gateway.dll?f=templates$fn=default.htm$xhitlist_q=%5BRank+500%5D%28%5BField+general+conference%3Akolob%5D%29$xhitlist_x=Advanced$xhitlist_s=relevance-weight$xhitlist_d=Magazines$xhitlist_hc=%5BXML%5D%5Bkwic%2C0%5D$xhitlist_xsl=xhitlist.xsl$xhitlist_vpc=first$xhitlist_sel=title%3Bpath%3Bcontent-type%3Bhome-title%3Bhit-context%3Bfield%3Azr%3Bfield%3ARef\">search at LDS.org<\/a> reveals the number of times that Kolob has been discussed in any doctrinal way in general conference in the past (30+?  how far back does lds.org go?) years is . . . <em>zero<\/em>.  (There are a total of five uses of the word &#8212; three times programs listing the hymn &#8220;If you could hie to Kolob,&#8221; once in a mention of Kolob Stake members, and once in the descriptive phrase &#8220;Well, I knew no more what was on Fox Islands than what was on Kolob.&#8221;)  The Ensign in general is almost bereft of recent discussions of Kolob:  There is a total of <a href=\"http:\/\/library.lds.org\/nxt\/gateway.dll\/Magazines\/Ensign\/1997.htm\/ensign march 1997.htm\/the book of abraham a most remarkable book.htm\">one doctrinal<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/library.lds.org\/nxt\/gateway.dll\/Magazines\/Ensign\/1994.htm\/ensign january 1994.htm\/news from antiquity.htm\">one apologetic<\/a> piece mentioning Kolob in any substantive way in the past 20 years, neither one authored by a general authority.<\/p>\n<p>If any church doctrine or idea has <a href=\"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/?p=3376\">died of desuetude<\/a> by now, it is the idea of Kolob.  Does anyone still believe (much less teach in church) the idea of Kolob?  When did you last hear about Kolob over the pulpit?  (Was it based on <em>Mormon Doctrine<\/em>?)
