So a friend of mine is going to shepherd a much-needed project: an index of theological, exegetical, historical, and doctrinal writings by LDS women.<\/p>\n

Huldah is a model for women’s explication of scripture and history.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

This index will make it easier for students and teachers of the Gospel to find and use works by women. I hope\u00a0it will encourage younger women to engage in these fields as well.<\/p>\n

Our job here is to plant the seed and get the ball rolling (er, sorry for the mixed metaphor there). I’m going to list a few article-length works by LDS women with the hope that you will add to the list in the comments. I’ll turn the results\u00a0over to my friend and it will constitute the beginning of an exhaustive list that will be publicly accessible. (And of course I will let you know when that happens.)<\/p>\n

So, here’s my list:<\/p>\n

“Desert Epiphany: Sariah and the Women in 1 Nephi<\/a>” (Fronk)<\/p>\n

“It Is Well that Ye Are Cast Out: Alma 32 and Eden<\/a>” (Webb)<\/p>\n

“‘Saving Christianity’: The Nephite Fulfillment of Jesus\u2019s Eschatological Prophecies<\/a>” (Hardy)<\/p>\n

“‘Thou Shalt Be Silent’: Literary Allusions to Isaiah 6:1\u20138 in Luke 1:5\u201325<\/a>” (Berkey)<\/p>\n

“Revealing Parables: A Call to Action within the Doctrine and Covenants<\/a>” (Easton-Flake)<\/p>\n

“The Crucifixion: Reclamation of the Cross<\/a>” (Strathearn)<\/p>\n

“Celestial Visits in the Scriptures, and a Plausible Mesoamerican Tradition<\/a>” (Wirth)<\/p>\n

And, finally, a meta-entry: a discussion of female LDS scholars:<\/p>\n

“No More Strangers<\/a>” (Easton-Flake, McInelly, Lane, Woodstenhulme, and Johnson)<\/p>\n

In addition to more works to seed the project, we need some help with a snappy title for the database\/website. I’ve thought of “There Were Also Women” (quoting Mark 15:40), “Not Only Men But Women Also” or just “Women Also” (quoting Alma 32:21), “Expounding Scripture (D & C 25:7), or “Huldah’s Workshop.” But I bet you can come up with something better than that.<\/p>\n

So: What theological\/historical\/exegetical\/doctrinal works by LDS women have been useful to you and deserve a wider audience? And what might we title this project?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
