{"id":2833,"date":"2006-01-09T01:11:08","date_gmt":"2006-01-09T06:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/?p=2833"},"modified":"2006-01-09T07:21:13","modified_gmt":"2006-01-09T12:21:13","slug":"we-did-adequately-apply-oil-to-all-the-seats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesandseasons.org\/index.php\/2006\/01\/we-did-adequately-apply-oil-to-all-the-seats\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;We did adequately apply oil to all the seats&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The confirmation hearings for Judge Samuel Alito begin today.<!--more--> According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB113649645107138940.html?mod=most_viewed_day\">W$J<\/a>, Reverend Rob Schenck (did they intend to write &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalclergycouncil.org\/index.htm\">Paul<\/a>&#8221; instead of &#8220;Rob&#8221;?), an evangelical Christian and founder of the National Clergy Council in Washington, and two other ministers have prepared the room. Those <em>seats<\/em> Reverend Schenck is referring to will support the bums of Judge Alito, the senators, witnesses, Senate staffers and the press.<\/p>\n<p>Reverend Schenck and two other ministers were barred from entering the hearing room last Thursday, so they were limited to blessing the doors. The seats got the oily treatment the day before.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The three ministers insisted they weren&#8217;t taking sides in the Alito debate.  &#8220;This is not a pro-Alito prayer,&#8221; insisted the Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition. With abortion, public prayer, gay marriage and right-to-life issues among those topping public debate, however, &#8220;God\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6is interested in what goes on&#8221; in the nomination hearing, Rev. Schenck said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The three ministers claim that they blessed the same confirmation room  prior to the Roberts hearings, and that &#8220;went very well&#8221; according to Reverend Schenck.
