Contrary to what some people think, the bloggernacle isn’t a long-running magazine like Sunstone or Dialogue, with a steady cast of characters and articles. It’s more like a student ward; blink and you’ll miss it. Enjoy the interactions now, because tomorrow half of the participants will be gone, and today’s particular mix of participants will never again be recreated. The moving finger writes awfully fast on the internet. <\/p>\n
Student wards are comprised of a lot of easy-come-easy-go itinerants and a few stalwarts. Every now and then, a stalwart moves from the ward, and that’s always a big deal. <\/p>\n
Word on the street is that a bloggernacle giant may be leaving. I hope otherwise. But on the assumption that the rumors are true, let me give my own reaction: <\/p>\n
Steve Evans, the blogger and writer and zeitcaster, has done more, save Nate Oman only, for the edification and entertainment of men in this bloggernacle, than any other man that ever lived or blogged in it. In the short space of twenty months, he has brought forth BCC, which he transcribed by the gift and power of his own twisted imagination, and has been the means of publishing it on two platforms; has sent the fulness of the blogosphere, (some of) which it contained, to the four quarters of the earth; has brought forth the posts and comments which compose the book of Kulturblog, and many other wise documents and instructions for the benefit of the children of men; gathered many thousands of the bloggernackers, founded a great online community, and left a fame and name that cannot be slain. He blogged great, and he departs great in the eyes of the bloggernacle community. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Some birds aren’t meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they’re gone. <\/p>\n

I’m taking a short bloggernacle vacation myself. Nothing drastic. I’ll be back soon enough, making the same inane posts as usual. But it’s time for a breather. Lately, it seems that my blog participation has done nothing except waste my time and upset my friends. I need a break. And maybe I’ll even get some work done on a few long-delayed real-life projects. <\/p>\n
