Beirne<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With the election approaching on Tuesday, I&#8217;ve been racing to put together a rundown of the candidates who are Mormon around the country.\u00a0 I know that <a href=\"http:\/\/bycommonconsent.com\/?s=Mormons+in+Congress\">Kay Atkinson King has done an extensive series on BCC going over the congressional elections<\/a>, but I think that my summary below has a few additional pieces of information, including both state level elections and information on a few candidates who aren&#8217;t actually Mormon but who have significant Mormon connections or were once Mormon &#8212; a status that we will probably see more in the future.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First I will summarize the Federal level candidates and then I&#8217;ll list the state level candidates state by state, except for Utah, where the number of candidates is so large that I will either have to skip it or do another post later.<\/p>\n<p>As always, I am interested in further information. In some caes I have made assumptions about who is Mormon when complete information isn&#8217;t available. When I know that someone is no longer Mormon, I have indicated it.<\/p>\n<p>Incumbents are marked with an * preceding their name.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Federal Candidates<\/h2>\n<h3>U.S. President<\/h3>\n<p>I know that everyone knows about Mitt Romney, and many know about Jon Huntsman, Jr. But the story doesn&#8217;t quite stop there.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rocky Anderson \u2014 Justice Party<\/li>\n<li>Cesar Cisneros \u2014 Republican (lost primaries)<\/li>\n<li>Jon Huntsman, Jr. \u2014 Republican (lost primaries)<\/li>\n<li>Edward C. Noonan \u2014 American Independent (lost primary, subsequently left party)<\/li>\n<li>Mitt Romney \u2014 Republican nominee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve left off several other minor candidates who don&#8217;t appear to have made the ballot in any state.<\/p>\n<h3>U.S. Senate<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>*Mike Crapo \u2014 Republican, Idaho [Next election for this seat is in 2016.]<\/li>\n<li>Jeff Flake \u2014 Republican, Arizona<\/li>\n<li>*Orrin Hatch \u2014 Republican, Utah<\/li>\n<li>*Dean Heller \u2014 Republican, Nevada<\/li>\n<li>Scott Howell \u2014 Democrat, Utah<\/li>\n<li>*Mike Lee \u2014 Republican, Utah [Next election for this seat is in 2016.]<\/li>\n<li>Shaun McCausland \u2014 Constitution, Utah<\/li>\n<li>*Harry Reid \u2014 Democrat, Nevada [Next election for this seat is in 2016.]<\/li>\n<li>*Mark Udall \u2014 Democrat, Colorado [Next election for this seat is in 2014.] &#8212; Does not consider himself LDS, but comes from a historically LDS family.<\/li>\n<li>*Tom Udall \u2014 Democrat, New Mexico [Next election for this seat is in 2014.]<\/li>\n<li>Dave VanderBeek \u2014 American Independent, Nevada<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hatch is expected to win. Flake and Heller are ahead, but their races are considered toss ups at Real Clear Politics. Beirne \u2014 Democrat, House District 47<\/li>\n<li>Richard Fale \u2014 Republican, House District 47<\/li>\n<li>Henry Vincent III \u2014 Republican, House District 51<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Idaho<\/h3>\n<p>Senate:<\/p>\n<p>Nine of the 35 members of the Idaho Senate appear to be Mormon. Just one of the nine (John Andreason) is not seeking re-election.
