How &#8217;bout you??"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No one writes enough haiku.  And we want to know why?  Haiku are like the potato chip of poetry\u00e2\u20ac\u201dyou can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have just one.  They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re clean, simple, economic, easy to read, and easy to write, provided you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t take yourself too seriously.  <!--more-->More importantly, they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re easy to teach, and often serve as students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 first introduction to poetry because the three lines of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, and 5 syllables are easy to grasp.<\/p>\n<p>Traditionally, the third line often functions similarly to a punchline, closing the imaginative distance between the first line and the second.  But don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t let that scare you.  For our purposes any haiku will do.<\/p>\n<p>We want everyone to post at least one haiku.  As far as we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re concerned it can be about anything, but feel free to explore Mormon themes.  Who knows?  Maybe haiku will soon become the Mormon poetic form of choice.<\/p>\n<p>For example, here\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s one Brian wrote about the sacrament.<\/p>\n<p>Old lady lipstick<br \/>\nCrushed cups stained in silver trays<br \/>\nYet, sins still wash clean <\/p>\n<p>Shannon wrote this one about a familiar, but increasingly rare holiday sight.<\/p>\n<p>Red kettles for coins<br \/>\nBell ringers at every store<br \/>\nExcept for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/money\/industries\/retail\/2004-12-06-target-salvation-army_x.htm\">Target<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s one more Brian wrote about a frequent T&#038;S contributor.<\/p>\n<p>Missing in action<br \/>\nA left-leaning voice now paused<br \/>\nSteve, come out and play<\/p>\n<p>We do haiku, so, now will you?
