Wow — seeing “2,912 mornings” definitely made me pay attention. And a great blog post, too. Our oldest child completed her first year of early morning seminary this year, and this post reminds me that I didn’t thank her teachers enough. Thank you.

I loved this! My favorite was this:

I picture them sleeping in their beds, dreading the sound of their alarms, doing their best to drag themselves out of bed and get to seminary – I pray that what I have waiting for them will be worth their sacrifice.

My fourth just graduated from seminary last month. I have two to go, one with one year under his belt and another starting in a few years. I will read this to them so they can see the experience from the other side of the desk. How blessed your mother’s students are!

Without knowing your mother I unequivocally endorse your characterization of her as “amazing.” I taught early morning seminary for a year. Anyone who volunteers to do so, year after year, qualifies for a very special and select category of sainthood.

Early mornings and teenagers for all those years? I’d best stay in Utah: I’d have trouble bearing such a calling cheerfully. But I’m not surprised you carried it off well and with good humor–I met you years ago when you let about 20 of us BYU writing tutors sleep at your house, and I remember your warmth. There are (not a few) professional seminary and institute teachers who lack that key quality.

Christie, you’ve always been a great model. I only taught seminary for 3 years, and not nearly as well as you did, but did find it a great blessing. Those belated appreciative notes from students are the best! best wishes as you start in on more care for your parents, another noble and needed task.
