Craig Keener has written two volumes on that very topic (which I haven’t had a chance to delve into yet). He seems to be the Mike Quinn of New Testament scholarship (i.e., he never met a footnote he didn’t like). I know that Eric Huntsman has cited him several times in his new DB book, but those interested in more information about this can refer to both of these. I thought David Bokovoy’s statements about biblical “historicity” in general and one blog about New Testament “historicity” in particular would make good companions for your musings here. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/davidbokovoy/2015/02/the-good-news-of-christ-historicity-and-the-new-testament.
