Glad to see the gateway is up. Just earlier this week I sent Patheos an email with some suggestions for their entries on Mormonism. Overall I thought it was quite well done. I only found a few errors, and they were all very minor. I offered some suggestions for when they get around to revising it–things that would give a better picture of what Mormon life is like, how Mormons view temples, how Mormons stand on abortion, etc.

Mitt Romney might be the most serious presidential candidate yet, but I’d say his father was the first Mormon to be a major contender for a major party’s nomination.

REW (1), you forgot Orrin Hatch’s toss of his hat into the ring, not to mention Bo Gritz. Of course, its a real question how serious many of these candidates were.

But, back to Patheos.com — I was actually a bit disappointed by how little Mormon-related information there was. It looked like they got little or no input from actual LDS Church members. And, I was quite annoyed to find that the “news feeds” they included were just the Deseret News’ LDS stories, Mormon Times and LDS Newsroom. Lame. Where was the T&S news feed? [GRIN]

I do wish them well, but I think they should have delayed announcing the Mormon section or perhaps even going live with it until the information available was enough for some credibility. I hope they can overcome this deficit.

I think that it would be fair to say that Mitt Romney has waged the most serious presidential candidacy yet.

Looks like an interesting resource, but it may still need some editing. George Romney and Mo Udall were both serious LDS contenders for a presidential nomination, not to mention Joseph Smith (although the latter was not running for a major party nomination).
