Have you ever noticed how uncharitable some can be when they’re preaching charity or how intolerant they can be when they’re preaching tolerance?
As Julie Smith points out, there’s an example over at By Common Consent (of all the unlikely places) which is just too good for the sidebar.
Go read it to find out that “every discussion that has taken place in the bloggernacle” has been hateful and bigoted. Mark Brown is willing to admit that there might be some incredidly nuanced way of opposing gay marriage that doesn’t make you a bigot, but he doesn’t know what it is, and until then haters like you and me out to shut up.
P.S.:
It gets even funnier.
P.P.S:
I LURV GAY PEOPLE!!!*
*but not in a gay way**
**assuming Mark Brown is OK with that.
P.P.S. I denounce the tone of Mark Brown’s post! The tone is unwelcoming to me.
Let me explain to everyone what is happening here: in the past, I’ve been (perhaps rightly) chastised for linking to other posts and drawing discussion away from their blogs. So, I decided to post this with comments closed. Adam did not like my post and asked my permission to post a comment. I told him I was OK with that and that I’d post a response to his comment but then comments would be closed after that. So here’s my response to Adam:
FWIW, I haven’t actually read any of your recent SSM posts; I posted the link to the BCC post because some of the comments that I have scanned related to SSM around the various blogs are in violation of the counsel the BCC post points to, and so I thought it was a good reminder.
I closed comments because when I have put up link-posts with open comments in the past, I have been accused of poaching.
If you choose to interpret what he said (or my citation of it) as an ad hominem, then–insert verbal shrug here.
I didn’t have any particular “SSM hounds” in mind when I posed this; it was a general reminder.
