It is an amazing picture. But the moon isn't the color of blood. At least not on my computer. I really like the imagery Jack #6 invokes. I never would have thought of that. Thanks

For this article I think of Helaman chapter 16. People just forget God and think all of these things which are going on don\'t really matter.

+1

Southern CA is blanketed in enough smog at night to regularly delight all sailors.

It's a good and useful thing to stare up at a blood red moon and remember to think about the end of time.

People who believe the end is near are never wrong.

EXT. NORTHEASTERN BRAZIL CIRCA 1996 - DAY

Following three days and nights of intense thunderstorms, two Mormon missionaries are out knocking doors.

PERSON AT DOOR
What do you think about these thunderstorms? Is the end of the world nigh at hand?

MISSIONARY
Yes. Can we come in and talk about it?

(Don't miss this opportunity all you missionaries in So. California!)

A red moon is nothing new. There have been fires and volcanic eruptions from the beginning of time. So I'm not really sure what we're looking for in this apocalyptic imagery. The one thing that seems obvious, though, is that the whole thing (taken together) is shouting something about the atonement. We have the sun and the moon which, almost miraculously as it were, are the same size from our vantage point. This might point to a likeness between the Father and the Son thus identifying them as such. The Father retreats (hides his face/doesn't shine/is covered in sackcloth/etc.) and the Son atones (is bathed in blood/turns into blood/becomes red/etc.). And then if we add a little more imagery from other passages spoken of in conjunction with these two, such as the stars falling from heaven, we have the Fall as well.

It's all very interesting, but I don't understand its utility as a sign of the times. Perhaps, if viewed in an eschatological sense, it could be seen as an overarching symbolic completion of Christ's work before the final day.

2 - No! He's just an REM fan.

What's funny about this is that when you get up and you see the sun through the smoke, it is a freakishly red color. I had one of my coworkers say the other day, "You see the sun this morning? Armageddon, I'm tellin' ya!" It's interesting how much this concept is in so many different people's minds any time this sorta thing happens. The good thing about it is that at least it causes us to pause, and think about the ramifications of the End.
