Again this summer, Richard Bushman and Terryl Givens will be leading a summer seminar for graduate students on early Mormon thought. The application deadline has been extended to March 2nd, so there is still time to apply (just!). Further details and application materials are available from the Summer Seminar web page.

There was some discussion of this seminar following Nate’s announcement in the fall. Another window into the sort of conversations Richard Bushman and Terryl Givens like to cultivate with graduate students is Jana’s account of this past weekend’s graduate student conference at Yale.
That’s like the second or third time they’ve extended the deadline.
And I rushed to get my application in by the 15th of February (I even sent it Priority mail just to be sure).
I don’t know if this is because they haven’t gotten enough applications (I’m cool with that) or because they don’t like the applications they’ve gotten so far (in which case I’m pretty much doomed).
Ivan, don’t you love it when you’re left hanging and your mind runs wild. I’m applying for academic jobs and am having the same problem. Hang in there.
I can’t even imagine what it will be like once I start applying for academic jobs in a couple of years. A friend in my ward here is doing that, and he is slowly going insane.
For what it’s worth, Ivan, I think the appearance of extending several times is probably better interpreted as having decided once to extend it, then changing their minds over exactly how long. When I looked at their web page on Feb. 13 the deadline was already listed as Feb 28. About five days later Richard announced March 2nd. Extend the deadline by two days? And they actually had a pretty good number in by the 15th, but maybe they thought it was silly that the deadline was like the day before that conference at Yale, where some might become interested . . . Anyway, I’m pretty sure this doesn’t imply any comment at all on the quality of your application : )
Ben -
I sure hope so. Your reasoning does make sense.
I’ve decided that it’s all good.
